Abstract
This paper presents rules of the delegation of services relating to public transport by the public authorities based on Regulation (EC) No. 1370/2007 of the European Parliament and the Council of the European Communities. Some general issues relating to the role of public transport in the system of general interest tasks are the starting point for the discussion. The article depicts four model examples of organization and management of the public transport system. Particular consideration has been given to the scheme of compensation for public service as an element of balancing the cost structure of public transport.
