Abstract

This paper presents the tendencies in the occurrence of disasters in the first years of the 21st century, including the consequences of these events in the form of economic and insurance loss and death toll. The review of the biggest disasters in the first six years of the new millennium and the damage profiles of the events analysed show an increasing danger of disasters for the world population and economy. The conclusions and forecasts drawn and developed on the basis of the above-mentioned statements and results seem not to be very optimistic as to the course of the possible future disasters in the following years of this century. The issue discussed in this paper is the subject of the doctoral dissertation, which is being developed by the author of the paper.
